Differences Between a Ball Python and a Boa
The differences that make them different from each other because they are mistaken for each other as they kind of look similar and the patterns of scales on their body is also similar. The differences between the ball python and the boas are as follows:-
Depending upon the size the boas are smaller than the ball pythons. The large species of boas will be around 4 feet to 12 feet, while the largest of ball pythons will measure around 20 feet long. Therefore, the ball pythons are considered longer than the boas in size. You can measure the length of the two in order to check the size.
Both the reptiles are egg-laying but still, there is a difference in their reproduction way. The ball python is oviparous which means they directly lay eggs and then the eggs are incubated outside. But the boas are ovoviviparous which means that they incubate the eggs inside them and give live birth to a boa. This is one of the major difference between the two from which you can identify them and distinguish between the two.
3. Skull bones
You can also distinguish between the two on the basis of their skull bones. The skull bones of the boas are quite distinct which makes them different from the ball python as they have a fewer number of bones in their skull. While the ball python has more skull bones as compared to the boa and you can know the difference by the number of skull bones in both of them. The boa has lesser skull bones as compared to the ball python.
The teeth are also a parameter on which you can differentiate between the boa and the ball python. The ball python is said to have premaxilla i.e. a pair of upper jaw bones and in the case of the boa, it is completely absent. Even the number of teeth in a boa is lesser than the ball python. This is a physical difference that you can use to distinguish between a boa and a ball python so that you are not confused and if you are a beginner you will not have any sort of problem while differentiating between the two.

Though you can find ball pythons in North America they do not naturally originate from those areas, they are just accidentally introduced in these parts of the world.
