Why is my crested gecko on the ground?

When there is not enough foliage means that there is not many plants or things inside the cage that the crested gecko cause for climbing purpose you will notice that they are found mostly on the ground that is opposite their nature.
As we know that the crested geckos are arboreal in nature which means that they love climbing onto the plants or clinging to things and because of this reason they are found usually upon the trees most of the time.
So when you notice that the crested gecko is on the ground then one of the reasons can be that there is not enough foliage inside the cage. So make sure that you provide the proper amount of foliage for the crested gecko inside the cage so that they can climb onto them.
Also, they feel safer because they prefer to hide in between the branches or foliage as they do not like to be exposed or stay in open spaces.
2. In search of moisture
As we know that the crested gecko needs a humid climate as they are used to it, so sometimes they do not find moisture so in that case they are found on the ground.
When the moisture content is too low inside the cage of the crested gecko then also in search of moisture they are found on the ground. So in such cases, you need to provide moisture inside the tank of the crested gecko and for that purpose, you need to do misting inside the cage, so that the proper moisture can be maintained inside the cage.
3. Too much moisture
There are chances that the moisture content would be too high inside the tank of the crested gecko and because of that reason the crested gecko will not be able to climb on the plants because the leaves or the stems would be wet and it becomes too slippery for them to get on it.
So when the moisture is too high at that time you need to provide proper ventilation inside the tank so that proper humidity levels can be maintained inside the tank of the crested gecko.
Make sure that the humidity level should not be too high or too low it should be of the appropriate level. So when the moisture content is too high inside the tank then also the crested gecko is found on the ground.
4. Tank and the feet of the crested gecko is not clean
You will notice when the tank in which the crested gecko is staying is dirty then the crested gecko is not able to stick onto the wall of the tank. So because of this reason, they are found on the ground.
There can also be the possibility that when the crested gecko’s feet are not clean then also they will not be able to climb onto the walls of the tank because again they will not be able to stick their feet on the wall of the tank. So in such cases, you need to clean the tank and also the feet of the crested gecko so that they can easily climb onto the walls of the tank and do not just lie on the ground. 5. Active at night
You will also notice another behavior in your crested gecko and that is you will find them on the ground during the daytime. They will be quite lazy and will also seem quite stressful but there is nothing to worry about as they are active during the night time and that is the reason they would be found on the ground during the daytime. 6. Gravid crested gecko
The female crested gecko will spend most of the time on the ground when it is gravid as they do not have so much energy that they can climb around inside the tank and she just wants to stay on the ground and just move around at the bottom of the tank.
As she would also be searching for a place where she can lay her eggs and bury them. Also, she would have gained some weight at this time due to which she will not be able to climb inside the tank. So a gravid female is also found on the ground most of the time.
