Getting a bearded dragon for pet is a popular trend now. However, this one is somehow distinctive and much different in its features and habits. Not a regular pet owner will expect the set of behavior seen in one. Unlike dogs and cats, bearded dragon is an aloof kind of creature, who does not prefer to mix up too much with other animals or even its owner. Neither does it love the company of other similar creatures.
The age and the health are two major factors that can make a bearded dragon happy. They will only play when they are fine and well accustomed in their surroundings. It is not easy to keep the bearded dragon as a pet, as only keeping the enclosure clean and feeding it right not make it bond with you. You need to show some extra care and emotion to get the reciprocation.
Types of activities To Play With A Bearded Dragon:
Getting the attention of this small beardie is fun and as it does not do so easily, it is much valued when it starts communicating with you. You need to build its trust as it is actually a nervous kind of animal by instinct. Hold it softly and do not do that often, twice of thrice a day is more than enough. Also feeding it by your own hand makes it feel the proximity. When you are doing your job at home, keep the enclosure at a busy place from where it can see you and feel your existence.
How to make Bearded Dragon play:
Getting a swimming pool for your bearded dragon is a nice idea. Getting a tub and filling it with water that is of 80 degree Fahrenheit is necessary. The tub should not be very deep and the water should be up to the elbow of the dragon. Adding some small toys will make the swimming experience a fun part of the day.
Take it for walk
Also you can take it for walk. This can be done once it is quite accustomed with you and does not feel nervous or jittery at your presence or while you are handling it.
There are some norms for doing this, which you should follow. Lizards are sensitive to the temperature, so the outside temperature should not be more than less than 80 degree Fahrenheit. Also you need to carry some snacks to feed the lizard, so it does not catch any insects outside while feeling hungry. Try to put a harness on it while walking, and if it gets tired, carry it back to home.
Playing with ball
Playing with ball is another nice and enjoyable pastime with your dragon. Of course it will not play fetch like your dog would have been done. But a lightweight, bright colored ping pong ball will make it excited and it may turn or push the ball with its nose.
Snuggling with the little creature is a rewarding gesture. You can take it out of its terrarium and keep on a soft towel, or on your lap or hand. See which position makes it comfortable. You can stroke its head with your finger or let it play with your finger or arm. It may fall asleep if the atmosphere is warm and snuggly.
Take it to a ride
Take it to a ride in a nearby place. Putting a leash on it is must, but it will like the breeze and of course, exploring a new place other than your residence will be fun for it. If you do not want to put on a leash, then take a basket to carry it.
It takes time to bond with this small and moody pet, but once you win its trust, you will know the value of this bonding. Playing with it and spending some precious time with the pet bearded dragon will make you and this lizard equally happy and satisfied.
