One of the best things about the bearded dragon is that it is one of the pets that do not need maintenance at all. You just need to pay attention towards them for a while. But it is important for you to know how you can leave them unattended if you have to go somewhere or you are on a vacation.

If we look to the analysis we see that leaving these alone for a day or two is not much of an issue. But three days would be viable time, more than it could be a problem for you.

Leaving bearded dragons alone

After consulting a lot of bearded dragons owners we come to know the various important points for handling them. We see that the owners who care about their beardie would make efforts t do everything possible that can make them happy and healthy.

The most important aspect while taking care of a beardie is that you need to be concerned on if you can leave them alone or not.

There are a lot of people who leave their beardie pet alone at home without any care. But leaving the beardie for a week or two would be very long and no one should do this. Leaving the bearded dragon for weeks without any food and care will absolutely be a very bad option. And no one should ever do this.

We say that there is a time limit for the pet owners, for which they can leave their beardie alone at home. This can be for 1-3 days on different occasions. We can be a little nervous on many occasions but the beardie does just fine so you need not worry about it.

What To Do With Your Bearded Dragon While On Vacation

Below are the important things that can be considered for leaving the bearded dragon alone.

Age

The first thing that needs to be kept in mind while leaving the bearded dragon alone at home is the age. If they are very young then they can be left alone for a very less time. They are similar to humans in their younger stages.

If the bearded dragon is a baby then it is not at all a good idea to leave them home alone. There is a very fragile time in their lifetime and for that they need very good care. Baby bearded dragons need a lot of care so that they can be left alone after wards. You need to ensure that your beardie stays healthy while it grows.

When your bearded dragon is a bit older then you can go for night trips with it. It should be not more than 1 day in the earlier stages as the beardie is young and needs daily nourishment.

How long theycan be left alone?

To know about how long your beardie can be left alone you first need to see some real scenarios for it.

Not all people have the willingness to take care of a bearded dragon so leaving your bearded dragon with someone else for many days will not be a good option. But you can surely leave your beardie home alone for about 2 days and not more than that.

But to leave your bearded dragon alone you need to take care of the precautions. Three to four days would be a lot if you are thinking of leaving the beardie alone.

Preparations for leaving bearded dragon alone when on a vacation:

Leaving the beardie alone for more than four days would e a problem for you and there can be a lot of issues regarding it. This span of time for leaving them alone is not recommended. It can have ill effects on the pet. Along with that leaving those home alone for a week would be too long.

Cleaning tank:

No matter for how much time you will leave them alone you need to clean their tank well before you leave. You don’t need to do a lot of hard work but housekeeping would be the best.

Make sure while you are cleaning the tank no feces are left behind and the greens are cleaned out. Also pick up skin sheds if there are any. You also need to make sure that the food and water dishes are clean. Leave both of them in clean containers for your bearded dragon.

Check tank location

Do not keep the tank in direct sunlight as it can be harmful. Some owners keep the tank near the window when they leave, but it is a very bad idea and no one should do this. You need to be sure that your tank is kept away from the direct sunlight and is in a normal place.

Keep lightening on timers

When you are setting up your lightning make sure you keep a timer. When the bearded dragons sleep they prefer the lights to be off as like the humans. If the lights are on even at night it can be a little stressful for the bearded dragon.

Keep the thermostats

There are thermostats in a lot of homes. Now these are great devices and work in an awesome manner.

These will help in managing with the cooling or heating even if you are not at home. This is called geofencing. This will help you in saving money and will be good for your beardie even if you are not at home.

Make sure you have a thermostat while you leave your beardie home alone. It is necessary that the temperature should not fall below 65.

Water

Regular baths are very important and it is necessary for your bearded dragon too. A nice warm bath would be very important and refreshing.

You need to give proper hydration to the pet and bath is one of the ways to do so. Leave some water for your bearded dragon. The dragon would favour fresh water.
