The mixed breed dog that derives from affenspinshcer and Chihuahua is a cute looking one. It comes with great energy level and is particularly suited for families with all grown up people. Also they are quite temperamental and one needs to keep it attention all the time.

The German breed affenspinshcer and Mexican Chihuahua have produced affenhuahua but the personality and look of this small dog is totally different and unique in its own way. They, even after being small, are courageous and never calm.  They have some territorial qualities in them and also they are protective about the home and the family.

What is the usual behavior of the affenhuahua?

Affenhuahuas are pretty sociable, so if you have friends regularly coming to your house, for the first time you will be anxious of meeting the friends with the dog. But later on they will quite like the approach of the regular guests.

They are pretty alert too, anything unusual cannot miss the attention of the affenhuahua. So that way it works just like a guard dog, but without the strength of fighting with the enemy.

What problems can arise if affenhuahua is not properly trained?

As affenhuahua dogs are so energetic, if you do not provide it with right amount of exercise or training time, you will see the dog destroying house objects or making a ruckus within the home. Until their energy is well spent they will keep people and pets around them busy.

They also need attention from their owners. The bonding time with the owner is much needed by the affenhuahua. So the time you spend with your dog is the quality time within which the pet will bond with you.

How you can keep the affenhuahua busy?

You need to teach the affenhuahua with some practical skills. This way the dog will be spending less free time and will be busy following your directions. There are certain minor chores like fetching the newspaper or some small items as per your direction will be gladly followed by the affenhuahua.

How to control the hyper energetic affenhuahua?

To keep a hyper energetic small dog like affenhuahua, you need to adopt a few techniques. If you are adopting a dog, you must learn about its temperament and the way it behaves. If you find that the dogs is super energetic then try to divert or channelize its energy to different jobs.

There are certain activities which we have discussed below to keep your affenhuahua busy and engrossed. Their energy will also be well spent and they will not act destructive within the territory of your house.

Obedience training

The obedience training is the first and foremost prior activity that an affenhuahua should adopt once it is brought home. Not all affenhuahua comes with equal level of concentration. Also this is a designer dog breed so it can pose the solace of the affenspinshcer or else it can have the vivacious tenacity of the Chihuahua.

Before knowing the dog properly you cannot assume how much direction it will be able to follow or what level of concentration you can expect from it.

So you need to follow the dog for a few days to know its habits, level of destruction it can achieve, and also how it reacts when human tries to enact with it. Most of the small dogs have the snapping temperament.  Before they trust the owner totally, they often act defensively by barking or snapping at them.

If you are not confident enough to work out with your dog or you know a professional trainer who can do this job better, appoint him or her. Training by you or the trainer, should not last for more than 30 minutes for a single session. Whatever is learnt one day should be repeated the next day, so the dog keeps the previous directions as well as learns new skill.

Practicing tricks

After your affenhuahua is practiced a month of obedience training, you can try to practice some tricks. This time again, you will be needed some treats to make the affenhuahua follow your directions. The usual and easy tricks like rolling over, sitting down, jumping over any short object or shaking hand can be practiced in this session.

This trick learning session will be both fun and active time for your dogFor roll over, you need to put the dog in a downward position and holding the trick you need to revolve your hand around the neck area of the dog. You can offer it the treat that you were holding after it completes the turn. For the shaking hand pose you can make the dog sit on the floor and then keep your hand moving around its paw, until it lifts it.

Fetch

Now all dog owners are well aware of this game, which is an enjoyable pastime for almost all the dogs. Affenhuahuas love this game and they pretty much enjoy this trick. The burst of energy will be spent up while they play fetch for half an hour or more. An attractive colorful and soft ball, in the size of the affenhuahua’s mouth will be ideal for this game.

Make a wide area of your hallroom clear from any obstacles.  Now you can sit at one end of the hall and throw the ball. See how gleefully the pup runs to fetch it. This is a nice game as it does not tires the owner but keeps the dog busy for several minutes.  You are done for 20 times, the dog will be super tired and will be sleeping peacefully.

Walking

Taking the dog for a walk for 30 minutes at a stretch is a good exercise for the dog as well as for the owner. When you start working, do not make it longer than 20 minutes, and do not take the dog every day. After you bring the dog home, it will take some time to get adjusted with the new household so you should keep the dog at peace.

After a week or two, start taking the dog for a walk. The pup should be leashed and you can take the dog to near about dog-park, or the common park, whichever is nearer to your area.

While taking the dog for walk, you should carry a water bottle and a short stick if possible. This way you will make sure that nothing comes near your small dog and disturbs it. Also check the behavior of the affenhuahua However, outdoor adventures are always special for the dog breeds like affenhuahua.

 Swimming

A very good exercise for small pups of affenhuahua is swimming. This is possible when you have a makeshift pool at your place. Let the pup wander into the water as long as it wishes. Make the water lukewarm when you feel the weather is too cold.

Most of the dogs love to play in the water, and also you can make this period more interesting by adding some floatable toys into the pool. As affenhuahua is a small breed and the pups are even smaller in size, any time there can some accidents. So keeping a watch on the dog is always necessary.

Conclusion

When you bring home this energetic and super smart pup, be sure that a good part of your time will be engaged to take care and look after this dog. You should be a patient trainer and a loving parent to keep the affenhuahua in best condition.
