The guinea pig needs a person who can understand them and also that is the reason that you need to build a strong bonding with them so that both of you can live a happy and peaceful life with each other and also enjoy each other’s company. You can follow the steps given below in order to build a bond with the guinea pig:-

1. Start talking to the guinea pig

If you want to bond with the guinea pig you need to make sure that talk to them as much as possible and the reason is that the guinea pig will get used to your voice and they will feel comfortable whenever they will hear your voice. Also, the tone that you will be using with the guinea pig should be smooth and gentle so that they feel safe and secure while listening to your voice.

The guinea pig will get used to your voice as much as you will talk to them and also they will not see you as a threat, even the guinea pig will not be in the defense mode whenever they will be around you and by recognizing your voice they will ease themselves and enjoy your company.

2. Spend time with the guinea pig

The guinea pig will bond with you only if they are used to you and that is only possible if you will spend more time with the guinea pig. The best way to bond with any living being is to spend as much time as possible with them so that the guinea pig feels comfortable with them and also they will get used to your presence.

The guinea pig is a pet that gets used to the people who are around them or who spend time with them as much as possible. They will enjoy your company if you are familiar with them and will not get scared of you or your presence and will also feel connected to you which is why spending time with the guinea pig is important.

As the more time, you spend with the guinea pig the more they will understand you, and also you can even understand them properly.

3. Give space to the guinea pig

When your guinea pig is introduced to the new environment or they are stressed out, you need to keep them alone and also make sure that you keep them calm and even they need personal time in such a time.

Make sure that you give them a personal space as the guinea pigs love quiet places and because of this thing you need to keep them in a small place. You can just speak to them or stay with them quietly but do not interfere in their personal space and that is the reason you need to provide them with personal space because that is important for the guinea pig.

The guinea pig loves to be in a calm place and the more you will understand them and provide them with everything they need they will bond with you even more.

4. Be consistent with the guinea pig

Another important step when you want to build a strong bond with the guinea pig is that you need to be consistent with whatever you do with the guinea pig so that they can get sued for everything that you do.

Also, the guinea pig should not be in the fear of what will happen next as they are not used to surprises so you should make sure that they are comfortable and aware of everything that is happening with them or around them. This will help them to stay calm and also they will be comfortable in such an environment where they are aware of everything that is happening around them.

So be consistent with the guinea pig so that they feel safe around you. So consistency is the key to building a strong bonding with the guinea pig as in this way the guinea pig will also start understanding you and also they will wait for you to stay with them if they will build a habit of this.

5. Cuddle the guinea pig

When the guinea pig has gotten used to you then you can take the liberty of cuddling and snuggling with them, though it is not possible in the beginning later when both of you are comfortable with each other, then you can cuddle with the guinea pig and also you can snuggle with them.

Even the guinea pigs love to snuggle with you. You will notice once they are comfortable with you they will start burrowing into your sleeves, hoods and even will try to stick to you whenever you will pick them up. The guinea pigs love to cuddle once they are comfortable with you.

6. Get another companion (preferably another guinea pig)

The guinea pig is used to living in herds in the wild so it is also recommended that you can get another companion for the guinea pig so that they can live happily. As much as possible you should be able to provide the guinea pig with everything that they need they will bond with you even stronger.

The guinea pig always loves the company of another guinea pig as they can play with them and enjoy their time with the guinea pig.

The guinea pigs are used to living in the herds that are why getting another guinea pig as a companion for them will not only keep them happy and healthy but also they will understand the fact that the owners will get everything for them that is important for the guinea pigs to live a happy and healthy life inside the captivity.

7. Handle the guinea pig properly

Whenever you will try to handle the guinea pig make sure that they are comfortable with your touch. The guinea pigs need to be handled carefully so that they do not feel that they are being attacked.

The most important thing is that do not grab them immediately, take your time and slowly, slowly try to touch them and then grab them from the side so that they do not get scared.

Do not hold them from the top because the predators grab them from the top. So it is very important the way you handle the guinea pig, you need to be gentle with them and softly and with gentle touch try to grab them in such a way they can feel comfortable and safe with your handling and will not try to run away from you due to the fear.

8. Do not surprise the guinea pig

If you want to bond with the guinea pig never ever try to surprise them because they will get scared and further this will lead to stress in them. So whatever you want to do with them it should be done slowly so that they do not get shocked and they are used to your actions, in such a manner they will be calm and even comfortable with their owners and also they will not feel a sense of fear running through them.

Make sure that the guinea pig is not surprised by you and giving them a comfortable environment will help you to build a comfortable environment for them.
