No, you should not feed jam to your bearded dragons. It is not safe at all for the health of bearded dragons and damages the health of your pet. So it is recommended to not feed jam to the loving pet. There are several reasons behind this but the major one is the presence of an excess sugar content which proves to be very harmful to your pet dragon.

It can cause obesity and tooth decay very easily in the pets. Therefore it is better to avoid jams completely as they do not provide any effective nutrient values but cause adverse effects on the bearded dragon’s health.

Jam is a jelly-like food item combined with a jellying item like pectin and honey. One thing is that it can last for a longer time and you can preserve it and enjoy it at any time. It comes in different flavors and different forms like sweet jelly, chutneys, kinds of butter, etc.

A high amount of sugar is added to it while preparing it and also high in the calories content. Extracts of different fruits are added to make different flavors. It is a food item that can be used in different forms and different things.

Jam is very beneficial and provides lots of nutrients in general and also beneficial in many aspects. Jams are gluten-free and contain a high amount of fibers but sugar content varies that depends upon the type of jam whether they are made from fruit extracts or by adding additional sugars.

  • Vitamin C – 2%
  • Carbohydrates – 10%
  • Vitamin B12 – 1.1%
  • Iron – 1.2%

The disadvantage of this is high calories and sugar content otherwise it provides enough amounts of nutrients to your body.

Jam is made of fruits crushed into liquid and ads with some jelly substance like honey and adding some flavors. Make sure to exercise if consumption is on daily basis. Here are some general health benefits of the consumption of jam.

1. Helps decrease blood pressure:

Eating jam can help to reduce the blood pressure and pectin present in it plays a major role in this and also helps to form blood cells in the body. This will help to heal the wounds easily and quickly.

2. Helps to reduce the risk of heart attack:

Jam is made up of a variety of fruits and provides lots of nutrients as fruits are beneficial for the health of the heart. This also helps to reduce the risk of strokes and many heart-related diseases and other cardiovascular diseases.

3. Low in fats and cholesterol:

The good point about jam is that it is low in fats and cholesterol which is a good thing for a healthy food item to eat. The reason is that it is made up of fruits which make them fat-free and cholesterol-free.

4. Help to cure constipation:

Consumption of jam also helps to cure the problem of constipation because of the healthy contents present in it.

Helps to improve skin and hair: Pectin is present in all the fruits and jam also contains different kinds of fruits so helps to improve the skin and hair texture.

Some adverse effects of eating jam

There are some health risks also which are discussed below.

1. Lead to obesity:

Eating jam in excess can lead to obesity and also heart disease after some time of daily consumption. Therefore it is not a good thing to eat anything in excess.

2. Low in nutrition:

Boiling reduces many important nutrients and their effect and jam are prepared by boiling the fruits that naturally affect their nutritional effect like vitamin C present. It also contains a high amount of sugar content which is also not good for health.

Eating jam is healthy and good but in excess is not good for bearded dragons, as it will cause an adverse effect on their health. The reason is the high sugar content present in it but for human beings and other animals, it is safe for consumption but again in a limited quantity.

It has many health benefits but on the same handsome adverse effects too. But for bearded dragons, it is recommended not to give fruit jam to your pet dragon.
