Do bearded dragons eat apple peels?

Humans can eat apples with and without the peel but this is not the same for the bearded dragon. So it is important that you do not let your bearded dragon eat the apple peel. The peel not only causes a risk of choking but is also uncomfortable and difficult for your dragon to chew.

Also, apple peals might even contain chemicals that are sprays and pesticides that can even kill the bearded dragon.

Why bearded dragons cannot have apples all the time?

No fruit is healthy if it is fed in huge amounts. Apples are also one of these. Even if the fruit has a lot of health benefits there are certain elements that can harm the bearded dragon.

It has high sugar content and this is the main reason that you cannot feed your bearded dragon. If you feed too much sugar to your bearded dragon then it has the same effect as it has on you having too much sugar.

You can even find tooth decay, diabetes, and even fatty liver disease. In case your `bearded dragon has a high sugar intake then it can suffer from heart failure and can even die.

How to feed the bearded dragons apples?

You can give your bearded dragon the apples and even watch the beardy devour it. It is very interesting to see and the best way of feeding them apples is by cutting them into small pieces so as to prevent choking.

A couple of times during the start when you feed apples to your bearded dragon you can keep an eye on him. You also need to make sure that he is not struggling to swallow it and is not making coughing noise.

If your bearded dragon is having trouble eating the apple then it will probably be big in size. Also, you need to take special care of the seeds as the bearded dragon cannot digest the seeds.

So, whenever you feel like feeding your bearded dragon an apple it is important that you remove the seeds and also the stem and the core.

This can also lead to gut impaction and this is the deadly condition in which the digestive tract can get blocked. The best way by which you can prevent your bearded dragon from eating the seeds is to serve the outside flesh.

This way it is easy to serve the flesh and the peeled apple as well. If the flesh is too close to the core of the apple then it is hard for the bearded dragon to safely eat it.

Summing up, it is safe to serve apples to your bearded dragon in the following ways:

  • Peel the apple
  • Take put the outermost part of the flesh into thin pieces
  • Ensure that the seeds are removed and there is nothing in the core.
  • The veggies can be served alone.

Conclusion:

Thus, you can feed your bearded dragon apples as it is safe but do not feed too much of it. Moreover, peel it properly and remove the seeds before serving as seeds are harmful.

Also, take care of the diet and even add some fresh insects and veggies to the diet to make your pet healthy. Do follow the tips and watch your bearded dragon enjoying the meal.
