Akbash is one of the most favorite and unique dog breeds which is loved by most dog lovers. They have a lovely white coat which makes them shed a lot and also get dirty pretty often. Lots of time is needed to attend to this dog and keep it in healthy form.

Akbash is an independent kind of dog and they have a distinct personality. Due to this personality, they are sometimes hard to be trained. They love to have a human family but they need to be adopted at an early age to prevent the clash of personality. They are also well behaved with the children or small pets of the family. They have observing quality which makes them good as guard dogs.

How To Groom Akbash Dog

Akbash dogs are generally fond of humans, but not all of them. They are comfortable in the company of the humans that are their master or family. But when they see some stranger approaching the house or coming near the master or his family, they can act aggressively. Not only unknown humans but also they are fierce at the dogs that are not known to it from earlier communication.

Another reason that initiates the streak of aggressiveness in Akbash dog is the possession of food. So when the owners need to train them, these aspects should be remembered by him or her to train this dog properly.

Grooming need of Akbash dog:

There are several parts in the body of the Akbash which needs separate procedure, tools, and knowledge to be kept groomed. Hereby we are offering some of the important aspects of the grooming of Akbash.

Coat:

As the coat of the Akbash dog is pure white and they have shedding habit that shows that Akbash dogs should be taken proper care of when the owner will keep it. Regular brushing and bathing once in two weeks are necessary to groom their coat.

The shedding is seen throughout the year, but in summer and autumn, the degree of shedding raises. You should be more watchful of clearing the floor and couches when you keep an Akbash at home.

How To Groom Akbash-Dog

Which shampoo should you use to wash Akbash?

The dog shampoo with natural ingredients should be used only to clean the coat of the Akbash dog. As it has the tendency of shedding, you should not use any harsh shampoo as it can damage the coat of this dog.

Trimming the coat:

The coat hair should be trimmed once in four to six months to keep the dog looking smart and well-groomed. This should be done again by a professional groomer. But if you are confident and get knowledge and information about the grooming method, you can get started with the right kind of brush and other equipment to trim the coat of your Akbash.

Nails:

Like any other big dogs, Akbash needs to be nail-clipped once in a while. This is not an easy task for beginners, but with time the pet and the owner become easy. Most people prefer to seek a professional groomer’s service for nail clipping. Do not clip nails when the Akbash is not well. Nail clipping is a strenuous task both for the dog as well as for the trainer so you should not approach the dog when it is restless.

Ears:

The outer part of the ears as well as the inner canal should be cleared from the wax and debris. You should check this part daily, as most of the microbial and bacterial infections are found in this part of the dog. Also, there can be pain and irritation inside the ear canals of your Akbash if there is moisture or wetness inside the ears.

To clean the ears there are several brands of wipes available in the market, which are quite useful and often come with medication so no rashes or itching is there in and around the ears.

Oral health:

The area inside the mouth of the Akbash and for that matter, any pet dog, should be cleaned regularly to keep the oral condition good. Brushing the teeth with a particular dog brush and dog toothpaste is recommended, and of course, you should not use any product that is meant for human use. The composition of the human products is not adequate for pet dogs.

Food and exercise:

The right kind of nutritious food and in the right amount will provide the Akbash with a strong body and lean muscle. Do not overfeed the dog and make it exercise for at least 30 minutes per day. This is a vital part of the grooming of Akbash dog.
