How often do I feed the chameleon?
The feeding of the chameleon that we discuss in this article will depend upon the age or the life stage in which they are and depending on that we will feed the chameleon. The various life stages and the pattern of feeding are as follows:
Baby chameleon
As we know that the baby chameleons grow quite faster as they have a high metabolism rate so we need to provide them with a constant supply of food so that they do not feed hungry or they do not starve because this is a growing stage.
We need to be quite careful when we are feeding baby chameleons and also how often we should feed them. It is recommended that we should feed the baby chameleon twice a day and because of some treason, it is not possible so make sure to feed them at least once a day as they need most of the nutrition at this stage.
So do not skip their food at this stage and try to feed them on a daily basis because food is very essential at a growing age.
At this stage of the chameleon, the owners should not be careless because if they are the baby chameleon can also starve to death and you can lose them or they can develop some sort of diseases.
So feeding a baby chameleon on a daily basis is very important if you want that your chameleon should live a healthy life and also enjoy themselves inside the captivity and grow up into a healthy chameleon.
Juvenile Chameleon
The juvenile chameleon is a stage ahead of the baby chameleon, at this the baby chameleon has grown up and entered into another stage, where the feeding schedule is kind of different from the previous one.
Now at this stage, you do not have to feed them daily like you used to feed them when they were babies. At this stage, you need to skip a day in between while feeding them and do that slowly, not abruptly because it will take time for the chameleons to get used to this new schedule of feeding.
You do not worry that if you will feed them by skipping a day this will affect their health and the answer is no it will not affect their health because at this stage they do not need much food and also their metabolism has also decreased as compared to the baby chameleon and even they are not much growing at this life stage.
So you can skip a day of feeding for the juvenile chameleon and do not worry because they will get used to it with time. This is done so that you do not overfeed them and give them the appropriate amount of food at the appropriate time.
Adult Chameleon
When your chameleon has reached the adult stage in their life you do not need to feed them daily and feeding them daily will also not be a healthy practice as this would be bad for them.
At this stage the chameleon is less active and also they are not even growing so they do not need lots of food and even the metabolism is also very low at this life stage of the chameleon. So for an adult chameleon, it is recommended to feed them every two days or even every three days and this is fine and you do not worry that your adult chameleon will starve to death or will remain hungry.
The reason is that an adult chameleon will eat less at this stage and do not feel like eating much food, so feeding them daily will make them obese and also there will be health issues if lots of food will be fed to them.
But you need to be careful that if you are feeding them after every 2 or 3 days you need to stick to this schedule and not skip their routine because then definitely you will starve your chameleon to death if there is skipping off the schedule.
For this, you need to observe your chameleon carefully and understand them and their behaviour so that there are no problems occurring while feeding the chameleon.
The feeding schedule or the time- the table is different at every life- stage of the chameleon and depending upon that we can feed the chameleon properly without any sort of skipping in between because that can prove to be dangerous for your chameleon.
What are the factors on which the feeding of the chameleon will depend?
There are various factors on which the feeding of the chameleon will depend upon and some of them are as follows:
- The age or the size of the chameleon
- The type of food
- Health status of the chameleon
- Quantity of food
Conclusion:
The chameleons need to be fed properly and also on time so that they could live a happy and healthy life and also that they would not be having any sort of problems while living inside the captivity.
Also feeding too much food or less food both are dangerous for the chameleon. So it is the duty of the owner to feed them the food on time and also in the proper amount to make sure that they are healthy and also you need to maintain an appropriate schedule in order to feed them.
