Are American Eskimo dogs good for first-time owners?

As the American Eskimo dog is known to be a sociable and friendly dog still they are not considered good for first-time owners and there are various reasons for this. If you do not have experience in how to handle a dog you should not start by owning an American Eskimo dog because with them lots of responsibilities come for which many beginners are not ready.

So until the owners do not get a proper experience till then you should not go for the American Eskimo dog for the very first time. You need to keep lots of things in mind and also it is not true for everyone some people still can handle the American Eskimo dog properly the first time but that is not the case always, the majority of the time people face lots of issues with the American Eskimo in the beginning.

So if you are a beginner you need to choose the right type of dog breed so that both of you can live at peace with each other.

Challenges while owning an American Eskimo dog

There are lots of challenges that one might face while they are owning an American Eskimo dog and these challenges are not only for the first time owners but also for the experienced ones, but the first time owners will find it more difficult to handle these challenges and some of these challenges are listed as below that are of a lot of concern:

1. High maintenance

The American Eskimo dog is a high maintenance dog which is why the people who cannot and also who do not have much time for their dogs do not get an American Eskimo dog because then it would not be a good idea.

As they need lots of care and they need someone who can be with them most of the time. You need to provide them with the best of everything so that they can live a comfortable life and also a healthy one, so it can be a lot challenging for first times owners.

2. Barks a lot

The American Eskimo dog barks a lot even if they will hear a little noise they will start barking. Also if they are left alone for a very long time then also they will start barking and this will lead to the fact that new owners will not be handled so much barking and too loud because it will take time to figure out why they are barking. If you have a neighborhood then it leads to lots of hassle.

3. Needs lots of physical and mental exercises

As we know that the American Eskimo dog is high on energy which is why you need to make sure that their energy should be channelized in a positive way and also they should be provided with lots of physical and mental exercises.

But for the first-time owner, it becomes quite difficult, especially if they do not have time because if the American Eskimo dog is not given proper exercise then they can become quite destructive and will do lots of damaging stuff that is not good for the owner and also the dog itself.

4. Shedding is heavy

Another reason that tells us that it is quite challenging to own an American Eskimo dog for the first time is that they shed a lot and if you are allergic to their hair then it would be complete chaos for you. Also, you will notice that American Eskimo dogs will run here and there in the house so you will find their hair everywhere in the house which will not be fine with every owner, so not everyone can handle so much shedding.

5. Requires proper training

If the America Eskimo dog is not given proper training that you will have to face lots of issues so for that reason you need to give American Eskimo proper training. You need to make sure that the American Eskimo should be taken proper care of and also they need to be socialized a lot otherwise they can face lots of issues with strangers and also with other animals around because they will not behave properly with them.

So training them and that also from a very young age is very important so that they do not cause any kind of problem for themselves and also for their owners.

6. Needs attention

The American Eskimo dogs are attention seekers they want to be around their owners most of the time and they do not like to be left alone they can go into stress if they are left alone for a long period or their owners are not giving them much attention which is why they are quite challenging.

These are some of the common challenges that one will face while owning an American Eskimo but these challenges will be more problematic for first-time owners because they will not have any experience to handle a dog and they will require some time to settle such situations.

Final thoughts:

The American Eskimo dog is an awesome pet but they need lots of effort from their owners too which is why you need to make sure that you handle them properly. The American Eskimo needs lots of attention and time from their owners too and they love to spend time with them.

So make sure that you spend as much time as possible with them so that you can bond with them and also you are able to understand them in better ways and also in this way both of you can live with each other comfortably without causing any issues for one another.
