Temperament of the Afghan hound

Afghan hounds as we know are independent nature dogs which means they do what they want to and do not like to listen to others. They are known to be high maintenance dogs who need lots of care and attention and also on the other hand they are comfortable with people only if the Afghan hound knows them.

They have a clown-like personality and loves to do lots of fun and even play around the house. The Afghan hound has a temperament that is different from many other dogs they are dogs who suffers from selective hearing and will ignore you if they think that it is not of their use.

You cannot easily control an Afghan hound but with lots of efforts and time, you can accomplish the task of teaching them the basic commands so that they can obey your commands and is slightly in your control.

But their selective hearing and independent nature will be sometime hectic for the owners, but with time you will get used to it and would love their clown-like personality. But under no circumstances they will prove to be dangerous to you, instead, they will be good and loyal dogs.

Are Afghan hounds aggressive?

The Afghan hounds are not at all aggressive, instead, they are laid back and do not create any type of fuss even if there are strangers around. They do not want any time of disturbance when they are alone and as being a good owner you should leave them alone when they need personal time.

Give them space and time so that they can bounce back to their normal routine. They have hunting instincts and also as we know that they are also quite amazing runners and hunt down small animals so we need to be careful when there are small animals around them.

According to their instincts, they will definitely try to hunt them down especially the ones who will try to run away from them. But they are not at all aggressive with their owners and lots of things also depend upon their owners as to how they control them or teach them and the environment around them also affects them a lot. So Afghan hound will not be aggressive as such but is a friendly and loyal dog.

Conclusion:

The Afghan hound is an outstanding dog only if you are ready to groom them and take care of them without any problem because as we know that they are high maintenance dogs so they need lots of care and attention from the side of their owners.

Afghan hounds are not at all dangerous or aggressive in nature which makes them a perfect family dog. But they are difficult to control as they are independent in nature and they do not like to follow instructions and want to do whatever they feel like.

The owners need time and consistency in order to control their Afghan hound and also so that they both can build a bond with each other.
