From the range of fruits and vegetables, you can pick your choice for your daily healthy meal. You can do so by picking and choosing the nutrients that are present in the foods.

But do not make the mistake of thinking that the food and fruits which are good for you will be beneficial for the bearded dragon. Bearded dragons are reptiles that originally are from Australian desert.

Their food habit and digestion system is much different than ours, and even the mammal pets that we keep in houses.

Now talking about figs, this is a fruit from mulberry group. This is much popular in Middle East and has been devoured by human since middle ages. So, can bearded dragons eat Figs? Bearded Dragons can enjoy a raw fig but not frequently.  This is fruit from temperate region.

The nutritional value of this fruit is described below:

Contents

Nutritional facts of fig:

When you take 100 gm of fig, it will provide you with energy, carbohydrate, fat along with dietary fiber, sugar and protein. There are certain kinds of vitamin like thiamine, riboflavin, niacin and vitamin B6.  Also you will get vitamin C and K and some minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, manganese, phosphorus, potassium, sodium and zinc.

The best benefit that fig can provide is good calcium and phosphorus ratio, but the downside of this fruit is, it contains high amount of sugar and is quite acidic in nature.

Why Bearded dragons should not eat fig frequently?

Bearded dragons should not have much fruits which are high in sugar as they do not get enough space to exercise within the terrarium. This high amount of sugar gets stored in their system and consequently can make it obese.

The fruits and vegetables that are high in dietary fiber are not suitable for bearded dragons as the nutrient content gets lessened due to that. So you must feed the dragons with fruits that are low in fiber and rich in nutrients.

Due to high sugar content, fig becomes acidic in nature, which is again a mismatch for the digestive system of the bearded dragons.

How much fig can bearded dragon eat?

All the above details do not prevent your pet bearded dragon from having fig once in a while. Fig is a sweet fruit and you can give in as toppings on the salad bowl. You must shred them into small pieces so that dragons find it easy to eat.

Figs, or any other fruits must be cut into small pieces, as you always should remember that the size of the mouth of the bearded dragon is pretty small. The pieces you make must fit inside the mouth or it will be choked while trying to eat their share of fruits.

Conclusion

Giving figs to bearded dragon should be limited in quantity and numbers. Do not feed the dragons’ fig, more than twice a week. Dragons rather love figs for their tasty sweet flavor and they gobble up the dish of vegetables if you serve them mixed with pieces of figs.

But restriction is needed as too much consumption of fig or daily intake of this fruit may not result in good health of bearded dragon.
