Can a box turtle eat the apples?

The answer to this question is simple and that is yes you can feed a box turtle with apples. The apple consumption for the box turtle is safe and the only thing that you should keep in mind while feeding the box turtle with apples is that they should be cut into small pieces and fed to the box turtle.

However, the apple does not have many nutrients that are needed by the box turtle so it should not be a regular diet for them but only be fed as a treat to them. As for feeding too many apples may cause some problems to the box turtle.

We know that feeding your pet with a variety of food is a good option otherwise, they can get bored just by eating the same food again and again so apples are a good option to give the box turtle as a treat. Even they find apples tastier than the meat or even vegetables that is why they love eating apples or even if they are fed with some other fruits they would prefer eating that over meat or vegetables.

How to feed an apple to the box turtle?

For feeding an apple to the box turtle, you need to cut the apple into small pieces so that it becomes easier for your box turtle to eat it and also easy for the digesting purpose. The apple should be fed once a week and every week you should change the type of fruit that you are feeding the box turtle so that they can also get a variety of fruits.

Do not feed them apple every week, try to change the fruit. So it is a duty of the owner to be aware of how to feed the apple to the box turtle and yes the box turtle loves to eat the apple, but do not overfeed them with apples and feed them with apples as a treat because that is a healthy practice and also they will love this healthy and a balanced diet and even it will help them to stay fit and also disease-free.

Why apple should be not be given in a regular diet?

The apples should not be preferred as a regular diet or a staple diet for the box turtle because it is not much healthy for them and also it does not provide them with many nutrients as other foodstuffs like the meat or vegetables provide to them. So due to the deficiency of certain nutrients, your box turtle can get sick and we cannot take a risk with their health.

Also in some cases, it can be fatal for the life of the box turtle if you overfeed them with apples. Also, big pieces or a whole apple if fed to the box turtle is also not a good practice as it will also harm the box turtle because they will not be able to eat the apple easily and neither they will be able to digest the apple easily. So be careful while you are feeding apples to the box turtle and keep in mind in what quantity and how frequently you should feed the box turtle with the apples. As apple should be fed as a treat to them and not a staple diet because of obvious.

Conclusion

The box turtle should be given a balanced diet so that they can live a happy and healthy life. Also with proper food, freshwater should be provided to them daily so that they do not get dehydrated.

When you will provide them with everything they need then you will notice that how happy your box turtle will be with you in the captivity as they will enjoy their time.

You will also feel happy while looking at them so try to give them a healthy lifestyle and also try to bond with them so that as a companion you are able to understand them and also so that they can enjoy your company.
