Are strawberries good or bad for the crested gecko?

There are 2 parameters on which we can judge whether strawberries are good or bad for the crested gecko and those 2 parameters are given as below:-

1. Ca: P ratio of strawberries

The Ca: P ratio of strawberries i.e. the calcium: phosphorous ratio is 1: 1.5 which is not considered ideal for the crested gecko it is a poor ratio. As the calcium content is too low in strawberries as compared to the phosphorous which is not at all great for the crested geckos.

This makes the strawberries unhealthy for the crested gecko but still, you can feed the strawberries to the crested gecko but in small or limited quantity. The strawberries should not be fed on a regular basis as it is harmful to them. The strawberries should be given as a treat to them as even the crested gecko adores strawberries a lot as humans do.

2. Oxalic acid in strawberries

In order to feed any food item to the crested gecko, the oxalic acid content should be low only then it is healthy for the crested gecko. The good news is that the oxalic acid content is quite low in strawberries i.e. approximately 2mg of oxalates per serving and this is considered as low oxalate content. This makes the strawberries fit for feeding to the crested gecko as they enjoy eating strawberries and the low oxalic acid content makes it safe for them.

These 2 are the important parameter on which you can judge how well or bad are strawberries for the crested gecko and from here we can say that the strawberries are both good and bad for the crested gecko. We should just feed them carefully and not in bulk but only as a treat so that they can enjoy eating strawberries.

How to feed strawberries to the crested gecko?

You should feed one strawberry to the crested gecko and that also sliced into pieces or you can mash it up and feed to your crested gecko.

Do not feed strawberries on regular basis to the crested gecko as it is not a healthy practice. Just treat your crested gecko with strawberries that also once or twice a month and make sure that the strawberries are not hard and in edible form. Be careful while feeding the strawberries to your crested gecko because they love to eat strawberries and will eat them in one go but the strawberries do not have good nutritional value so do not feed them on regular basis, it should be given occasionally to the crested gecko, even if they enjoy eating it.

Conclusion:

The crested geckos are cute little pets and their owners are very fond of them and that is why crested geckos are the popular geckos from the family of reptiles.

The crested gecko is kind of sensitive so we need to take care of them and also make sure what to feed them and what not to feed them because any unhealthy food will be fatal for them if proper care is not taken. Also, strawberries can be fed to the crested gecko but the owners should know everything about the strawberries their harmful effects and also the benefits and only then they should take a step of feeding the strawberries to them.
