What is the best way to transport a dog?

To solve the problem of many dog owners, the doggy seat belt has been innovated. This is why the dog owners prefer to use the dog seat belts inside their car so the dog does not meet any accidents while completing the journey.

There are cars that do not have seat belts or any other accommodating features to keep the doggy safe inside it. The regular seat belts are not adequate for the dogs. You need to get a dog harness that will keep your afghan hound safe inside the car. Also, you have to place the seat belt in such a way that the dog does not let its head outside the window while you will be driving the car.

Best way to take the afghan hound in a car

The afghan hounds are big dogs that prefer to stay in wide areas and calm surroundings. So when you try to pick them in a car, they may show some signs of irritation or reservation. To make them ready for a car ride, you need to follow the below tips.

Start at an early age:

This is applicable to all the training for the dogs. If you start the training for a car ride when the afghan hound is at the puppy stage, then you will be more successful and the process will work much easier.

At the puppy level, the stress does not play havoc on the afghan hounds. They are much relaxed at that age and that means they will be easily managed to ride the car.

Dog must not be alone in the car:

Keeping the dog alone in the car is dangerous. Even if the dog is accustomed to the car ride, then also you should not let the dog get into the car. The hound can push any button or get locked accidentally. This situation should be avoided at all costs.

Put the doggy crate in the trunk:

If you are not comfortable with the idea of a seat belt or harness for your dog, then you can carry a crate.  But when the afghan hound is at the puppy stage, they can be carried in the crate. In fact, the puppies often feel suffocated in the harness and they may also slip out of the harness. Thus using a crate will be the right idea to take them along.

You can put the crate in the trunk in a strapped position. But make sure the straps are tightly fastened or the crate can fall or tilt when the car jerks.

Using trunk for afghan hounds:

To carry adult afghan hounds, you can use the trunk specifically made for carrying them in the car. This one is famous among the large breed dog parents because of its safety. Your afghan hound will be safely situated inside the trunk while you will be driving or sitting peacefully. The passenger compartment of the car can be separated by a grid that will let you sit and the dog will not be able to jump from its side to your side.

Carrying the Afghan hound at the back:

This option is also suitable for big breeds like afghan hounds. Some dogs have stress or separation anxiety. To accommodate them in the car, you can keep them seated in the back seat. Use a harness and seat belt to keep them adjoined to the seat.

If you decide to keep the dog in the back seat, you need to use a waterproof seat cover so the seat does not get soiled by the dog. Using the seat cover will not only protect your car seat but also can be used as a hammock when you reach the destination of some jungle or beach trip. Almost always the seat covers come with their own fastening system which does not need any additional seat belt.

Carrying the dog in the front seat:

When you are driving, and own an afghan hound, and you are traveling solo, then this is probably the best option while you go for a drive. But in this case, you need to carry the dog from the puppy stage to make it adjusted to the situation at the front seat. The dog must be calm one and it should not get excited or make any interference while you drive. Some special arrangements should be made like a waterproof seat cover to keep the seat intact.
