The bearded is one of the amazing lizards that is preferred as a pet due to its large size and also its popularity. You can also find the morphs of the bearded dragon and one of the most common morphs of the bearded dragon is the German giant bearded dragon.

This is not the usually bearded dragon it is a very large bearded dragon that needs more space than the regular bearded dragon and this is due to their large sizes. In this article, we will discuss how to tell if we have a German giant bearded dragon or not.

As it is not so easy to recognize it you need to have some sort of knowledge or various tricks to recognize whether it is the German giant bearded dragon or not.

There are various ways in which we can tell or recognize that we have a German giant bearded dragon or not and that various way shave been listed as below which will help us to recognize the bearded dragon that which one are we keeping as a pet:

1. Blood test

You need to take your bearded dragon to the vet for the blood test who can tell you from the blood test of the bearded dragon which morphs it is. This is one of the easy ways to recognize which bearded dragon morph you have. But not all vets can tell this, only those who have knowledge or our experts in this field can tell whether the bearded dragon is a German giant bearded dragon or some other morph.

Not every vet can tell this. Another thing is that it will cost you some extra money because this blood test does not come under regular check-up, so you need to know that though it is one of the easy ways to know about your bearded dragon but it also an expensive way to know that are you having a German giant bearded dragon or not because it requires some sort of specialty as not all vets can tell you about this.

2. Genes of the parents

Another easy way to tell about whether the bearded dragon is a German giant bearded dragon or not is by looking at the parents. If you have brought the bearded dragon from the breeder or the pet shop they can tell you this because they might know the parents.

Also, the breeders will have the knowledge about this and can give you insights about your bearded dragon. But it is not possible in all cases because there are chances when the pet shop owners also do not know about the parents of the bearded dragon so it becomes quite tough to recognize them.

But this one is the easiest and also free of cost method to know whether the bearded dragon that you have is a German giant bearded dragon or not.

3. Check the length once they are fully grown

As we know that the German giant bearded dragon is known to be quite large when compared to other bearded dragons, so you can check their length once they are grown.

The German giant bearded dragon can grow up to 25 inches in length and some can even grow up to 30 inches in length so it is one of the clear indications whether the bearded dragon that you are owning is the German giant bearded dragon or not. But you cannot recognize it when the bearded dragon is young.

You can only use this method once they are fully grown so that you can get the exact measure of their length as after that there will be no variations in their length and you can be sure about your bearded dragon that which one you are owning.

4. Check the weight once they are fully grown

Another way to find that the bearded dragon is a German giant bearded dragon or not is through the weight of the bearded dragon. But you have to make sure that they are fully grown and only then take the weight of your bearded dragon so that you can get the proper values as the weight can fluctuate when they are still in the growing phase.

The fully grown bearded dragon will weigh around 24 ounces or even more once they are fully grown. But this is not the proper or you can say the most perfect method of finding the German giant bearded dragon because weight also depends upon the diet, environment, health, life cycle, etc. which will not give you the proper insight into the bearded dragon. So you cannot fully rely on this method of knowing whether the bearded dragon that you are owing is the German giant bearded dragon or not.

The above mentioned are the various ways by which we can tell whether the bearded dragon that we are owning is the German giant bearded dragon or not and these methods are easy to follow and you can easily recognize which bearded dragon morph are you owning. You need to b careful with your bearded dragon as they are also sensitive to various things and provide them with everything that they would need. Try to spend time with them so that you can build a bond with them and also give them a healthy lifestyle so that they are happy, comfortable, and satisfied inside the captivity.
