Bearded dragon are known for their wide opened mouth smiles, which also help them to cool down. Bearded dragons are generally kept in tanks which are called as vivarium generally.

In this article we will discuss about how to easily lower and increase the humidity in a bearded dragon’s tank according to the need of the beardie so that a proper environment is created for them to dwell as a healthy animal.

Contents

Ideal Humidity

The ideal humidity for bearded dragons is something that is very important for one to understand so that your beardie is healthy and do not develop any health issues. The relative humidity levels should remain at 35 to 40 percent. This humidity level is quite similar to the hot dry inland geographical regions of Australia in which the bearded dragon dwells in best of health.

The high humidity levels can increase the chances of respiratory problems for the bearded dragon and also many other health issues, so maintaining a proper level of humidity is a must.

Monitoring of Humidity

One should first know how to monitor the humidity and what is the ideal humidity level for the bearded dragon. For monitoring the humidity on should do the following:-

Hygrometer: It is used for measuring the water vapour in the air, soil or the confined spaces such as the bearded dragon’s tank. You get 2 types of hygrometers in the market i.e. Psychrometer and Mechanical Hygrometer. These both the instruments are used for measuring the humidity.

Lowering of Humidity

One should know how to lower the humidity in the tank of the bearded dragon as the humidity should be kept stable as sometimes the tanks get too highly humid, so we will discuss about some easy methods to lower the humidity in the tank. Following steps are followed to lower the humidity in the tank of the bearded dragon:-

Increase Ventilation

First you have to check the reading of the hygrometer and if you find that the humidity level is high in the tank than by increasing the ventilation in the tank of the bearded dragon you can lower the humidity level in the tank.

You can just open the windows of the room, you can also try adjusting your fan or AC in the room. Even if you will move the plants near the tank it will also help in increasing the ventilation.

Move the water bowl of the bearded dragon away from the heat sources: You can move away the water bowl of the bearded dragon from the heat sources because of the heat the water will evaporate and the humidity level will increase, you can either you a small sized water bowl.

No misting until the humidity is under control

We often mist the bearded dragons and their tanks from time to time as a part of their caring. But you should avoid doing it until the humidity is under control as this brings a huge impact in the humidity level of the tank in which the bearded dragon stays.

Dehumidifier

You can use a dehumidifier if all the above measures that we have discussed above fails. As sometimes the regions are highly humid so the above measures don’t work then you have to use a dehumidifier to lower the humidity level in the tank of the bearded dragon.

Increasing humidity

As we know sometime the level of the humidity is quite low and that is not ideal for the bearded dragon so we need to increase the level of the humidity in the tank of the bearded dragon by following the steps given below:-

  • Placing of the water bowl near the heat sources: You can increase the humidity in the tank of the bearded dragon by placing their water bowl near the heat sources as the heated water will evaporate which will eventually increase the level of humidity in the tank.
  • Do misting quite frequently: As we know that misting is a part of the bearded dragon care routine so if your bearded dragon starts hiding in more humid places then it means that humidity level is low in the tank so you should do misting in the tank quite frequently, as it will help you in increasing the humidity level.
  • Starting adding plants to their habitat: As we know plants will naturally generate additional moisture to their habitat in the tank so this will help in increasing the humidity level in the tank and this is one of the easiest method to increase the humidity of the tank of the bearded dragon. So you can just move plants in their habitat and that too without any hassle.

These are the methods that are easy to follow and you can follow them without any complications. You can easily increase and decrease the humidity of the tank of the bearded dragon in order to maintain the ideal humidity level in the tank so that the bearded dragon can stay a healthy life inside the tank and do not dwell any respiratory disorder or other related issues that can cause complications to their health.

Conclusion

The bearded dragon is a sensitive animal so you really need to be careful with them and also need take care of them.

So you need to maintain a healthy environment for them always and for that purpose humidity plays a very important role in that and your bearded dragon will stay healthy if you will take care of every little thing related to them and they will be happy and healthy.

You can enjoy with your pet if you will keep them happy and in a stable environment that is meant for them as they are away from their natural habitat.
