  • Injury or Sickness: The chameleon may be weak due to various injuries or infections that caused by various parasites like virus, bacteria, etc. this changes their behaviour and they become aggressive if you try to handle them.
  • Stress: The stress is considered one of the top reason for aggression in the chameleons because they are solitary creatures and they love to stay alone and they do not want any disturbance in their environment or also with them which causes stress in them and it further leads to aggression.
  • Territorial Supremacy: The chameleon do not like any interference in their area or living space so they start changing colours, hissing or very aggressive and tries to gain the territorial supremacy by attacking the other chameleon who enters their area. They do not want to share their living space with anybody they do not like it.
  • No proper care: When you are not able to take proper care of your chameleon then also chameleon become aggressive as it is not getting enough care and is not happy with their environment so they tend to get aggressive. If it’s a baby chameleons then you have to take special care.

How to calm a chameleon down?

When your chameleon is not happy or satisfied inside the terrarium they tend to change their behaviour and become kind of aggressive, so we can follow the steps that are given below:-

Build the bonding

The owner should try to build a bonding with the chameleon and be sensitive to their needs and understand what they want, as this will make them happy and with time will build a strong bond with you and they will not be aggressive as they used to be.

Add plants

It is recommended that you should add plants in chameleon tank or terrarium as they feel comfortable and safe with plants and in plants they are able to hide to feel more secure. This will help in calming down the chameleon and you will be handle the chameleon properly.

Noise free

You should always keep the tank or the terrarium of the chameleon in the room where there is less noise and not many people enters the room or there should not be any TV. As the chameleons loves to stay in quite places and do not want to get disturbed otherwise they become aggressive.

The terrarium or cage of the chameleon should be tall enough and should have stuff inside it that will help them to climb as they feel less threatened when they are at height and they will calm down in such areas. They need items to climb as they love to stay at places that are at some height.

Avoid the swift movements

It is advised to avoid swift movement near the chameleons because otherwise they feel threatened and this further leads to stress and aggression in the chameleon. The chameleons do not like fast movements as they think that their predators are present and this leads to aggression and avoiding such situations calms them down.

Hold them properly

You should always be careful while holding a chameleon as if they are not held properly they will feel irritated and uncomfortable and they become aggressive and want to run away from you, so they will start attacking you. Therefore, you need to hold them properly so that you can calm them down.

These are some of the ways that you should follow in order to calm your chameleon down and so that they are stress free and not aggressive.

The chameleon should be handled with care otherwise they become quite aggressive so we should understand them properly in order to calm them down and take some proper measures. You should enjoy the company of the chameleon and build a bonding with them so that they live a happy and a healthy life and not a stressful life which leads to aggression in them.
