The crested gecko is an amazing pet and also on the other hand the gargoyle is also known to be a good pet. Both the geckos are amazing in their own way and also both have their own pros and cons.

So it usually depends upon the owners which pet they want to keep depending upon their needs and requirements. For some crested geckos will be suitable and for some of the owners, the gargoyle gecko will make a better pet.

So in this article, we will discuss the crested gecko and also the gargoyle gecko so that we can know which pet is better and the owners can choose for themselves that which pet they can keep. We will know the differences between the two so that we can know that which one is suitable or better as a pet.

Crested Gecko Vs Gargoyle Gecko

Crested gecko and gargoyle gecko both are amazing in their own way and we will compare the two on the basis of various points that are listed below:

1. Size

The most important factor of any pet is their size so that we can know that how much space they need before getting them home.

Crested gecko: The crested gecko can grow up to a size of 9 inches on average and the size is measured from the snout tip of the crested gecko to the tip of the tail of the crested gecko.

Gargoyle gecko: When it comes to size the gargoyle gecko is also of the same size as the crested gecko on average the gargoyle gecko grows up to 8 inches.

Better one: So there is not much difference in their size and you can choose accordingly.

2. Weight

Another important factor is the weight of the pet and depending upon the weight we will differentiate between the two.

Crested gecko: the crested gecko is not much heavy in weight the maximum weight up to which the crested gecko goes is around 55 grams when they are fully adult and 55 grams is not much weight which means that crested gecko is light in weight.

Gargoyle gecko: On the other hand the gargoyle gecko is considered to be heavier than the crested gecko and they are found to be around 80 grams when they are fully grown. Though 80 grams is also not a heavyweight but still they are heavier than the crested gecko.

Better one: The gargoyle gecko is heavier than the crested gecko and which means that they are not much flexible as compared to crested gecko because if the pet is heavier there are still some issues when it comes to climbing.

3. Lifespan

The lifespan of any pet is something that you should know so that you can take care of them according to their age and give them what they need and on this basis, we will compare the crested gecko and the gargoyle gecko.

Crested gecko: The lifespan of the crested gecko is around 15 to 20 years and inside the captivity, they live more as compared to the wild if they get a suitable habitat. So if you are getting a crested gecko as a pet it means the lifespan is longer and you will be with your pet at least for 15 years.

Gargoyle gecko: The lifespan of eth gargoyle is around 20 years which means that you need to take care of them for a long time and be with their side as they will be part of your family for around 20 years.

Better one: The lifespans of both the crested gecko and the gargoyle gecko are almost the same and also they have long life spans which means that you need to commit to them for a longer life span as compared to other pets.

4. Diet

Before getting any pet at home the first thing you should know is about their diet as it is very important that what to feed your pets and we will discuss the diet of the crested gecko and the gargoyle gecko.

Crested gecko: The crested geckos are usually the insect lovers like roaches and crickets, waxworms, etc. You can also feed them with live food and can dust calcium and vitamin D3 powder on those live insects so that they get all sorts of nutrients.

Gargoyle gecko: The gargoyle gecko not only feeds on insects but also eats fruits and vegetables too. There is a large food variety that you can give to the gargoyle gecko as compared to the crested gecko.

Better one: The create gecko and the gargoyle gecko has a similar diet, but as compared to crested gecko the gargoyle gecko eats and enjoys a variety of food which helps them to keep healthy and comfortable.

5. Activity

One should know about the activity of their pets so that the owners can know them even better. We will compare the activities of the crested gecko and the gargoyle gecko respectively to know them better.

Crested gecko: You will notice that the crested gecko is active during the nighttime and mostly during the dusk and dawn which means that they are night creatures as most of the things they will do during the night.

Gargoyle gecko: The gargoyle gecko on the other hand is nocturnal in nature and they also are found active during the nighttime.

Better one: The crested gecko is more active as compared to the gargoyle gecko because the gargoyle gecko is quiet in nature and they do not explore much of the enclosure rather they are gargoyle gecko will be active when there is no noise and the darkness is all around.

6. Brumagin

We all know that the reptile undergoes brumation when the temperature starts dropping and the nights are becoming longer at this time you will notice that your crested gecko and also the gargoyle gecko will undergo brumation.

Crested gecko: The crested gecko goes into hibernation when the temperature is low, but if the crested gecko will get the ideal conditions inside the captivity it will not go under brumation and will live a normal life.

Gargoyle gecko: The gargoyle gecko will also brumate when the temperature drops in order to protect themselves and if the temperature inside their enclosure is ideal then they will not brumate or their brumation time period will get reduced.

Better one: The crested gecko and the gargoyle gecko does not differ much when it comes to brumation and have similar needs of liveable conditions.

7. Aggression

When you are keeping a pet you should know about their aggression so that you can control them in such a situation and similarly we will discuss the aggression of the crested gecko and the gargoyle gecko in order to know them better.

Crested gecko: The crested gecko is considered to be a non-aggressive creature in nature, but as they are territorial in nature that is when you will notice fights between the male crested geckos. But on the other hand female crested gecko are not at all aggressive they are rather friendly towards each other. Also when they are young due to hormonal changes the crested gecko will start getting aggressive at this age.

Gargoyle gecko: The gargoyle gecko are aggressive in nature as compared to the crested gecko so cannot house them together. So make sure about the aggression level of the gargoyle geckos before housing them together.

Better one: The crested gecko and the gargoyle gecko is not much aggressive as such but due to their territorial nature they get aggressive and also it has been noticed that the crested gecko are not much aggressive as compared to the gargoyle gecko.

8. Handling

The handling of the pet is a very important factor about which an owner should know so that no accidents or problems can occur. So we will discuss the handling of the crested gecko and the gargoyle gecko.

Crested gecko: The crested gecko is considered quite easy to be handled and you do not have to face many problems which handling them. You just have to make sure that you handle them with care and love and then both of you will enjoy each other’s company.

Gargoyle gecko: The gargoyle gecko is also docile in nature which makes them easy to handle and also they are not much jumpy and are slow walkers which makes it even easier to handle them.

Better one: When it comes to handling both of them are easy to handle and there is a slight difference that the gargoyle gecko is much easier to handle because they are slower and less jumpy as compared to the crested gecko and rest all is same.

These are the various points on which we can differentiate between the two and know which one is better for us according to our needs and requirements and both the pets are amazing in their own way.
