Feeding a baby brown anole
You need to quite careful in the case of babies as you cannot feed anything to the baby brown anole. The baby brown anoles need to eat on daily basis in order to grow so be careful with their diet, do not skip their food not even once. In general if you want to know how to feed anole, refer the guide here.
The baby brown anoles basically start eating properly after their first shedding takes place.
They have a similar diet as that of the adult brown anole. As we know that they are insectivorous in nature so basically they eat any type of insect that is fed to them or they find inside their terrarium. The most basic food or insect that they eat are crickets as they are very healthy for them and have high nutritional value.
You also need to give them worms like wax worms or mealworms as a treat so that they can have a variety of food. But worms should be fed once or twice a week because they do not have much nutritional value in them. The baby anoles also drink water that they get from the mist or the leaves.
But freshwater bowl should be required in order to quench their thirst as they need to stay hydrated in order to stay healthy.
Wild Diet
In the wild, the baby brown anoles eat all sorts of insects that are available over there but smaller in size as compared to the ones that are eaten by the adult brown anoles.
The insects like pinhead crickets, flightless fruit flies, worms like wax worms, mealworms, silkworms, roaches, etc. Any small insect they will get in the wild they will eat it.
Captivity Diet
In captivity, they are basically fed on crickets and worms of small size as compared to the ones that are fed to the adult brown anoles. The baby brown anoles should be given as many insects (crickets) as they want or eat in 15 minutes and then remove all the leftover food from the tank.
To add extra nutrition to the diet of the baby brown anoles, they are basically fed with the supplement of vitamins and minerals. This is given so that they get proper nutrients as they need to grow and stay healthy for their survival.
The supplements are provided in 2 ways to the baby brown anoles and those 2 ways are as follows:
Gut-Loading
The gut- loading is another method of feeding the baby brown anoles with vitamin and mineral supplements. In this method, you have to feed the insect first with additional nutrients and that also 24 hours before, you will feed those insects to the baby brown anoles.
Many people also go for this method of providing vitamin and mineral supplements to the baby brown anoles. The gut- loading is also one of the best methods to provide additional nutrients to the baby brown anoles as with the insect intake you will also intake the nutrients from both the sources i.e. the insects, the nutrients that are fed to them. The gut- loading provides lots of nutrients to the baby brown anoles.
Dusting
The dusting method of feeding the baby brown anoles with vitamin and mineral supplements is one of the easiest methods. In this, you have to sprinkle the vitamin and mineral powder on to the food you are feeding to the baby brown anoles like on insects or worms.
You have to feed it directly and also immediately to the baby brown anoles after dusting the powder on to the food as there is a chance of washing off the powder if not eaten immediately.
The younger the brown anole feed them more and on daily basis and feed your brown anole once inn every 4 to 5 days. Do not feed them with very large insects feed them with small-sized insects i.e. as long as the width of the head of the brown anole. So choose carefully what to feed your baby brown anole with.
Conclusion
The baby brown anoles are quite sensitive as compared to the adult ones so you need to take care of their food and should feed them more so that they grow up into health brown anoles and you would love to see them happy when they will start growing.
