Why is Leopard Gecko Standing Up?

A lot of animals stand up in defence only when they feel that you are going to hurt them or they are in danger. The leopard geckos make it them appear bigger in size. They do this by puffing up their body. They try to stand high as much as they can and wave their tail.

They might even do this when they feel scared or shocked.

Climbing the tank glass

This behaviour of Leopard gecko is referred to as the wall surfing. It is not an issue or something that you need to be worried about. It is simply that the leopard gecko is trying to climb.

Some of the reasons that could possibly be for your leopard gecko standing and climbing the tank are following.

One reason is when the tank you have provided your pet is too small for it to reside in and there is not so much space that it could freely explore. So the Leopard gecko tries to move around and explore the outside. Also, they feel uncomfortable if the tank is less than 10 gallons. Make sure you provide them with a tank that is enough for them to stay freely.

Another could be that your pet is bored with the tank and wants to climb it. So you can add some accessories to it so that it feels better.

  • Also, the breeding interest can also be a reason behind it. Your leopard gecko might be willing to escape the mate.
  • This behaviour is part of their learning process, they are not aware that the glass is the barrier, but they will eventually stop doing this after some time.
  • Some tanks do not have the appropriate temperature, so your pet might not feel comfortable in it and may want to escape.

How to know if the Leopard Gecko is happy?

You can notice the behaviour of your pet. If it is active and is climbing the branches and also eating properly then it is happy. Also, if your pet is healthy then it will sleep during the day and will not try to climb or escape.  Also, they like to hunt, explore and move around their enclosure.

Why Leopard Gecko Standing Up

Why does Leopard Geckos become aggressive?

You can notice that your pet becomes suddenly aggressive. Of your pet is a female then it is due to the hot female characters. These are aggressive and try to attack too.

If these are kept in high temperatures they become aggressive and this is noticed in other geckos too.

Other reason could be that they do not fond the proper environment in the tank. If the temperatures are very low your pet will get angry and lethargic as well.

If the temperatures are very high then it will start to climb and escape. Breeding season is mostly responsible for such actions and behaviours.

Conclusion:

All Leopard geckos are not the same and exhibit different personality. Mostly the leopard geckos stand or climb in their protection or if they are uncomfortable in their surroundings. They try to communicate with you with a lot of signs and actions, so you should know about it.
