Leopard Gecko is one of the most preferred geckoes and also the animal that is petted from the family of reptile. They are also loved by beginners and also experienced because they do not create much commotion and are easy to handle and are small-sized lizards and are lived by humans too. They are found in dry regions and usually found in South West Asia.

They are nocturnal in nature which means that they do not need any sort of special lighting inside their terrarium. For staying and living a happy and healthy life they do need proper care and attention from their owners.

There are times when you will see that your leopard gecko is doing glass surfing which means that they will try to climb the glass terrarium, which clearly means that they want to come out of that glass enclosure. Even if they are not getting the best basking spot then also they tend to do the glass surfing at night.

Why is leopard gecko doing glass surfing at night?

The leopard gecko is doing glass surfing because of many reasons like they want to come out of that glass enclosure and explore the place.

Sometimes they feel suffocated or uncomfortable inside the closed space so they want to come out of the terrarium. Another reason is that if they do not have an appropriate size of the terrarium they tend to do glass surfing because they are not happy in such a small space.

Also when you have not provided much items or accessories inside the terrarium for the climbing purpose then also they behave in this particular manner. Sometimes they are also confused with the fact that why they are not able to get across the glass and this is usually when they are newly kept in such an environment.

What can you do to prevent the glass surfing of the leopard gecko?

The glass surfing by the leopard gecko at night is normal behaviour, but sometimes they can do this because they are uncomfortable inside the terrarium. You need to understand them and take a few steps in order to prevent this glass surfing.

Take them out

You can take them out of the tank or the terrarium and interact with them this will help them in exploring the area and also will freshen them up and this will also help in building a bond with your leopard gecko.

Provide climbing accessories

You can provide the accessories or items inside the terrarium in order to make them climb those rather than doing the night surfing as they will be happy with those items and they will not feel the urge to surf the glass at night.

Reason for Leopard Gecko Glass Surfing

Spacious tank

You need to provide a tank that is spacious enough for the leopard gecko to move around and they do not feel suffocated or uncomfortable inside the tank.

As when the tank is too small then also the leopard gecko wants to move out of the tank as the tank is not providing the efficient space for the leopard gecko to move around. So whenever buying a tank for the leopard gecko go for the appropriate size so that your leopard gecko has enough space to move around and this will help your leopard gecko to be content in the place that it has and will not try any sort of glass surfing.

Perfect Basking Spot

Sometimes when the leopard gecko does not get appropriate then they want to come out of the glass tank, so it is the duty of the owner to provide the leopard gecko with the perfect basking spot by fitting the basking lamps inside the terrarium. By doing so the leopard gecko will not do glass surfing and will be satisfied inside the glass tank.

You should understand why your leopard gecko is behaving in a certain way and then take some action to prevent its certain actions.

Summary:

The leopard gecko sometimes will be found doing the glass surfing at night so you do not need to worry as this is normal behaviour and you need to just understand why your leopard gecko is behaving in such manner and help them to prevent this glass surfing by taking some actions for their betterment and healthy lifestyle.
