Caring For A Sick Bearded Dragon

Once you know that your bearded dragon is sick, consider these few things to do to care for your pet.

Comfort

You need to make sure that you provide your bearded dragon proper care and make it feel comfortable even at home. If your pet is sick then you should check if the conditions in its area are good or not. Make sure that the home is temperate enough for the beardie and you make it available with the suitable food.

  • You should provide your pet with conditions where a certain area is cooler and a certain area is warm. The warm area should be of 95-110 degree F whereas the cooler side should be of 85 degree F. This helps the pet to choose the temperature it wants for itself.
  • Also, providing a UVB bulb can do great help to provide comfort as well as warmth to your pet. Place the bulb for good lights above the pet’s home and change it after every 6 months.

Water

If your pet is suffering from dehydration then it can turn into severe illness. They require plenty of water to receive from it. Replace the water daily and make sure that you keep enough water for your pet so that it can drink as much it requires.

  • Dehydration alone can be the cause of illness in the bearded dragons.
  • If you find that your pet is dehydrated, then give it water that is clean and drinkable. If it does not drink water, then you can offer a drink or some kind of beverage that can minimize the dehydration. You can follow these to make sure for hydrating. Consult the vet if you do not find any information regarding what fluid to give during these cases.

Common health problems in the beardies:

Bearded dragons too can get sick. You can know about the health issues easily and treat your pet so that it feels better.

The common problems are:

  • Parasites
  • Mouth Rot
  • Dehydration
  • Metabolic bone disease
  • Impaction
  • Fungus

These are the issues that you will mostly notice. Some can be treated easily and some cannot be without consulting a vet.

Symptoms

There are a number of symptoms that you will find in your bearded dragon. These will help in knowing what problems your pet is facing.

You can keep a check of your pet and catch the disease r issue without it affecting severely. Some of the symptoms involve:

  • Open mouth
  • Sunken eyes
  • Foreign objects in stool
  • Breathing problem
  • Lethargy
  • Lack of appetite
  • Discoloration

Your bearded dragon can have different symptoms as well but these are the common ones. You can know your pet in quite some time and accordingly know what the issue is. If they act differently then notice more closely to know the reason.

Consulting a Veterinarian

If you live in a rural area then it is quite tough to actually find a veterinarian to take care of your pet.

Also, often vets do not have good training for the reptiles, so to find a vet that can take care of your pet would be difficult.

So for this you can start by searching information and finding any vet if possible. Also, talk to local breeders or societies as they have people who are enthusiasts of reptiles. They will help you know what your pet needs and what issues it is facing. Also, consult different people and know about if there is any vet nearby. After finding one, ask the questions related to their experience with reptiles and if they can do the testing.

Conclusion

If you are finding that your pet is sick, then it is very important for you to know the best care that you can provide your pet and ho you can provide it a healthy and happy life.

The best thing that you can do is to take your pet to a vet. Once you know what your pet is facing then you can provide the appropriate treatment. You also need to be sure that you provide fresh water and clean habitat.

By doing this you will help your bearded dragon and give them a chance to regain the strength and get recovered easily.
